I am 60 now! So what?

Image
I am 60 now! So what? I found myself craving for new beginning, to learn and to try  new things. I want to share my experience to encourage and inspire other woman and man to be braver and jump into new life experiences. Just to prove that the old proverb “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is wrong. Dictionary.com saying that proverb  “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is a proverb that means people are often reluctant or unwilling to change old habits or long held beliefs. And it’s true. If you believe you are too old to try to learn new things you probably right, but if you believe you could do anything if you put your mind to it, you are right too. Probably not anything and everything, but definitely a lot! You’ll just need to try! You could replace old  believes with a new ones...and start trying, one step at a time. One foot in front of the other. Just like me.  Please let me know what do you want to do, but afraid or procrastinating to try. You can ...

Unboxing HOMCOM Yogurt Maker, model SNJ-168.B and Review

Unboxing HOMCOM Yogurt Maker, model SNJ-168.B and Review https://youtu.be/1vtAqsrazJI We bought HOMCOM Yogurt Maker because we want to make fresh, healthy, additive free and   preservative-free, probiotic-rich yogurt tailored to our taste!  It is a lightweight and compact appliance designed to simplify homemade yogurt preparation. It promises a consistent heating for even fermentation. I like that jars for yogurt production are made of glass and each one is of the perfect serving size. The yogurt maker itself is light and small, which makes it easy to store.  The top clear cover is a bit thin plastic, so you have to be careful not to drop it. I am also not fond of plastic covers for the glass jars, and may look in the future for alternative solutions. But on the other hand, the coved do not touch the product inside and temperatures are too low to produce unwanted chemicals.  Default setting by the manufacturer is 42C (107.6 F) and 8 hours for yogurt production....

Paint Whimsical Flowers Along with Me - Easy Watercolor Painting and Doodling for Absolute Beginners Paint Whimsical Flowers Along with Me - Easy Watercolor Painting and Doodling for Absolute Beginners. Sometimes, it is intimidating to try complex watercolor painting. It looks so complicated that we stay away from even considering giving it a try. We just brush it off with the thought, “I can’t do that.” But… I invite you to dip your brush into the paint and try creating this simple and easy whimsical garden of flowers. Let's have fun! I deliberately chose not to include any background color so that it would be easier to paint. Use any watercolor paints, brushes, and fine liners you have on hand. Watercolor paper is a must, but again, do not worry if it is just student-grade paper. Your results will be different from mine, and that is OK. You can use different colors, shapes, and techniques if you choose to. Enjoy and have fun! Those are affiliate links. If you make a purchase aft...

What can you do with two meters ( or 2.18723yards) of fabric?

Image
Have you ever wondered what to do with piece of fabric? Piece of fabric that you bought, just because you loved the fabric? Usually it sits in the cupboard, encouraging small amounts of gilt every time you see it, successfully collect dust and raises the question: What should I use it for? Lets see. My piece of fabric waited for my decision for about a year. I knew I want a short pants. But I wanted a white embellishments, and I had no matching white fabric. It took half a year to find it. Not that I've been busy looking day and night for that fabric, it just wasn't a priority. Than one day I suddenly decided - this would be a day to cut that pretty piece of fabric.  I never managed to build the patterns myself, so I usually use ready to use patterns. Particularly I like using the patterns from Burda Style Magazine. I've been using their patterns since 1996. ( insert picture of magazine, affiliate link) After some time of work, I produced this pair of short pants.  To my...

I finally want to start recording videos for my YouTube channel!

Image
I finally want to start recording videos for my YouTube channel 60? So What! I registered the name and set up my account almost 2 years ago, had ideas, topics and some skills to share, but never had a real courage to start!  I find excuses such as “ oh, I need to learn a lot, before I start”, another good one -“I am busy”, but honestly, I think I am just simply afraid of unknown. First step is the hardest. I am trying to figure out what do I need to know before I attempt to record videos, what equipment do I need. I am using following system: Writing down categories such as knowledge needed, equipment, books to read, educational videos to watch brings structure to the task. Write as many questions in each category as you wish. Breaking each category down into the individual questions makes is more digestible.  Example:   Category: Knowledge  Question: What do I need to know about lighting? And finally breaking each question into smaller chunks: What is the best aff...

Have you ever wanted to draw or paint?

Image
Have you ever wanted to be able to paint or draw? Have you ever had those damaging thoughts: “I am not capable,” “I am not good enough,” “I am not an artist,” “I don’t know how”? Have you tried at least? Or maybe you have tried and did not like the result? Was your line of thought, “It’s not good at all”? But wait, to whom did you compare yourself? Leonardo da Vinci? I propose my theory: any drawing or painting is far better than an empty piece of paper or canvas. Any act of creation is better than nothing. Even this creation is better than nothing. Next one is better than the first one.   And this one is better than the 2nd picture. Not much, but better. Not perfect by any means, but it is a start! I found this interesting exercise in a very old book about drawing cartoons. You draw a random line,  and then you try to see and draw the face. Try it a few times and see how much fun it is. You can even try it with your children or at a party with yo...

The views from my kitchen window in Darque, Portugal

Image
We relocated to Portugal from Canada just a little bit less than a year ago. Today is February 2024. We are renting 2 bedroom apartment in little town named Darque, which lays across the Lima river from Viana Do Castelo, the northern beauty. The famous Ponte Eiffel is in the front of our living room window. The Lima river and the mountains are  best seen from the kitchen window. BUT, if I stop my story just right now, you will think: "OH, I wish to live here too!" And if I stop my story on those beautiful views, I will be telling a fairy tale, not a real life story.  Like do many people exaggerating the positive points and avoiding the negative to make the story more appealing. There are more pictures from same windows, that show more realistic views. And the consequences of the real life happening. The train tracks under the window: the trains go back and force, a bit loud, but not often. But the Round Abound under the living room window with route to the...

I Choose to be Happy! Is it easy?

Image
I Choose to be Happy! Is it easy? We just moved into new rental apartment in Darque, in northern Portugal. It is across the river from Viana do Castelo. This is what is hanging on the wall in our bedroom: At first I was busy unpacking and organizing our life for the next 3 month (at list), and had no particular thoughts about the message in the frame. Then one day, we went to see the celebration of the Festa do Corpo de Deus in Caminha city, where streets were decorated with fresh flowers and the message from the bedroom wall décor just simply popped up in my head: I choose to be happy! It was easy to chose to be happy, when everything around so charming and peaceful. But try to to convince yourself to chose to be happy in the difficult moments. Even if it is just small irrigatable moments. I am reminding myself at those moments about the saying on the bedroom wall and repeat those words like mantra: "I choose to be Happy! I choose to be Happy!" I can tell you that there...
